Founded over 25 years ago by Vietnamese-Australian Jimmy Pham, KOTO has emerged as a pioneering and highly respected social enterprise dedicated to transforming the lives of disadvantaged youth in Vietnam.
KOTO is a not-for-profit social enterprise that empowers at-risk and disadvantaged youth in Vietnam through its holistic hospitality training program. Under the withstanding pillar of the vision & mission with the belief that learning should be passed on, knowledge is meant to be shared, KOTO has been reaching out a hand to thousands of disadvantaged and at-risk youths with the passion to empower and transform life through educational opportunities.
KOTO’s overall objective is to provide young people with a life of choice and dignity. Their program provides young people with a well-rounded education to prepare them for life beyond the program. The curriculum includes hospitality vocational training (front-of-house hospitality or commercial cookery), English lessons, life skills training & computer skills training with a range of extracurricular activities & community service initiatives which further enhance the idea of “One helped, helps other”.
Over the past 25 years, KOTO has grown from one small on-the-job-training sandwich shop with 9 at-risk youth, to a 180-seat commercial restaurant & training center that provides a stimulating & practical educational setting for trainees to be fully empowered. Approximately 1700 graduates now include executive & sous chefs, hotel and resort general managers, business owners and university graduates. All are contributing to their families and society. KOTO continues to be acknowledged as a leading unique not-for-profit social enterprise, not only in Vietnam but also internationally. Today, they provide over 150 at-risk & disadvantaged youth per year in Vietnam and soon leverage the scope to accommodate 300 youth per year an opportunity to undertake our 24-months holistic hospitality training program to end the cycle of poverty & truly empower our trainees to realize their dreams.
